Shenzhen, often hailed as a “city of coffee,” boasts over 10,000 coffee-related establishments, according to recent statistics from Tianyancha, a leading Chinese data company.
The diverse coffee enterprises serve to invigorate countless individuals with their beloved caffeine fix. The newly opened Science Nature & Coffee Bar, dubbed as the first science-themed coffee bar in Guangming District, stands out with its unique features.

Merging the realms of science, art, and social interaction, this bar is designed to engage the minds and palates of its visitors. The name itself draws inspiration from two of the most prestigious scholarly journals in the world, Science and Nature. And the belief of the founder, Sun Rui, perfectly encapsulates the cafe’s core mission: to promote scientific inquiry.
As visitors step inside the bar, they are immediately greeted by a pleasant design featuring a distinctive red brick wall adorned with intricately arranged scientific elements.
A collection of academic journals sits prominently on a shelf near the entrance. The ambiance artfully balances a sense of nostalgia with a futuristic flair, creating an inviting and intellectually stimulating environment.
Guests can indulge in a variety of carefully crafted beverages, from classic Americanos to rich lattes, or opt for the cafe’s signature specialty drink, the “First Touch of Summer,” known for its unique blend of flavors and intricate textures.
The bar goes beyond typical coffee culture; it fosters a spirit of collaboration and innovation by hosting regular gatherings focused on research and technological entrepreneurship, to encourage the exchange of scientific knowledge and provide fertile ground for networking among tech entrepreneurs.
This innovative concept was born from the owner’s experiences studying abroad. “In Boston, we created a community of young scientists aimed at commercializing their research,” he shared.
“After returning to China, I wanted to continue this initiative through the coffee bar that serves as both a gathering space and a laboratory of ideas.”
Located at Guangming Tian’an Cloud Park in Guangming Science City, the coffee bar takes advantage of its proximity to numerous research institutes and universities, including the Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation and the Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology, to attracts students and professionals alike.
